BBQ Fundraising success!

BBQ fundraiser

On Sun 3rd July, Blackwattle Bay Dragon Boat (BWB) cancelled their usual water training session and headed off to Ashfield Bunnings to hold a fundraising BBQ. The day started early with the morning crew arriving at 8:00am. To our surprise, a few helpers were already there getting things ready! It was great to see a bunch of keen and enthusiastic members in our club! We had divided our helpers into 2 groups, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Thanks to all the helpers for the day, special mention goes to:

  • Janine, Michael, & Ollie for cooking on the BBQ, and especially Ollie who was on the BBQ for almost the entire day
  • Friends and supporters of BWB who helped out: Karen (Jenny's friend) who supported us by spruiking the crowd and advertising how good the sausages are; Sandra (Emma's friend) & Sue (Ollie's mum) who helped with various roles, and Daphne (Alex's mum) for lending her kitchen gear
  • Emma & Jenny for having to work so close to the BBQ, enduring the smell of the sausages
  • Ron for helping out in various different roles, from cutting the bread, replendishing the drinks, serving customers, and even cutting onions
  • Beau, Jenny, Jill, Julia, Leida, Lou, Ron, Sue (Ollie's mum) for looking pretty and attracting the customers as the servers and keeping the serving table so very clean
  • Beau & Julia who served the sauces on the rolls like a masterchef
  • Bel, John, Lorna, Sylvia for running around doing all the purchasing
  • David, Simon, Mark, Ange & baby Dean who couldn't help out, but still came around to support the fundraising and enjoying the sausage on a crunchy bread roll
  • Last but not least, Bel, Karen, Leida, Sylvia who had an onion slicing party the night before to get 20kg of onions pre-cut, many tears were shed but no fingers were lost

At the end of the day, the Club managed to sell OVER 800 sausages!!!  Thank you to everyone's support, and WELL DONE to everyone!!!

Blackwattle Bay (BWB) competed in their first Australian Championship which was held at Lake Burleigh Griffin, Canberra on 2-3 April 2011.  BWB put on an impressive performance over the weekend in the 10s races over the 200m and 500m distances.  heading_out_to_start._smjpg The team celebrated their achievements with a team dinner at a local Italian resturant.

BWB trains hard, races hard, but also plays hard. Other than racing in Canberra, the team also took in the sights and local attractions around the nation's capital - Questacon and the National War Memorial.

A special mention to our Coach Sylvia and team members Caitlin and Leida representing the NSW State Team. The NSW State Team retained the State v State Cup with Caitlin winning Gold as part of the Junior Women A team.
